School has officially started here in Colorado and I have done most of my back to school shopping. I say most because no matter what, there's always something missing from the list that the teachers request once your kids are back in school. I'm just waiting for it. Like most parents, I hate spending unnecessary money. I love when I shop that whatever I purchase last all year long, within reason of course. Make sure you have extra pencils and pens so that you're never out. If you're using a mechanical pencil, be sure to have extra lead. When you're organized, the less you'll be stressing.
Have an organizational system in place, here are a few ways to do that.
Have a binder with dividers
Choose a binder that fits you needs and use dividers help you to separate each class or subject. This way you're not carrying around too many notebooks. Separating your binder with color dividers will cut down the time spent having to find each class notes. If you decide that you don't want to use a binder, have different colored notebooks for each class or subject. Once again this will make it easier for you.
Introduce a Planner
If your school doesn't provide a daily planner, get one for your child. A daily planner will help them stay organized as to what's coming up, and what will be happening on a daily basis. Your child can list their homework so that they're not forgetting what's due. I know my children can be quite forgetful, especially when it comes to homework. Having a planner where homework is written down keeps them responsible. When the week is over, rip out the pages and start all over again. You can keep the old pages in a folder at home to look back upon.

Picking out a different outfit every single day for every single month of every school year sure can be time consuming, and I’ve even met people from public schools that skip more important things like breakfast in order to be dressed nicely! This is absurd, as breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Also, imagine all those hours spent in stores and malls just to find the perfect outfit that you’re probably going to wear for... at the most, one day, because you’ll want to keep your style ‘fresh’ and ‘original’. Believe me, I’ve seen it happen here and there.
Having school all year can be burdensome, and can have slight disadvantages in this area. The burden is placed on teachers, students, administrators, parents, and many more.
The state budget cuts have also taken a toll to both teachers and parents’ pocketbooks. According to (Kloberdanz-Modesto, 2011) “As parents have quickly learned from this year’s long donation list and increased frequency of car washes and bake sales, it really may take a village to run the local school.” I have experienced firsthand for the past five years how much the donation lists have increased. From only having to purchase school supplies for my son, I now also purchase supplies for the classroom just to ensure my child has all the tools he would need in order to get his education. When my son first started school, I remember his school supply list requested only for a couple of pencils, erasers, and color pencils. Now his list has contains his personal school supplies and donations of hand sanitizer, paper towels, computer paper, lined paper, packs of pencils, packs of erasers, white board markers, and the list goes on. I honestly do not mind, but what about the other parents who cannot afford it? Just this previous year I got close with a parent whose child was also in my son’s class. I remember her asking if I would mind for her to purchase the “not so expensive items” from the list because she was tight on funds. I could see in her facial expression that she was embarrassed to ask the question, but without adequate financing what are we to do as parents to ensure our children receive the tools they need for their education? Over the many years schools have been trying to find the most efficient way for kids to learn. There has been everything from constant review, and going over past material to be able to teach the new. There is however a new way to get the kids to remember old material. And this method has been implemented into school schedules all over the globe. That method is year round school. Recent as well as past studies show that year round school is the most efficient productive way for kids to learn. It has been said that students tend to forget during 3 month long summer vacations (USA Today 7). There is evidence that supports this claim in the difference in test scores between schools with normal schedules, and schools who follow the year round guidelines.

Ever wonder why you can’t remember what you learned at the beginning of school last year? Trying to remember what you learned last year may not help, because studies from the University of California show that students in grades 2nd through 9th can lose from 25-30% of what they learned the previous year. Although there are academic benefits to a year-round schedule schools should continue to operate on a 10 month 36 week schedule because it is traditional.
Go to your local school supplies store and buy some needed materials such as a pencil pouch, one divider for each of your class, some divider tabs, loose leaf paper and even a new binder if yours is broken.
Some may think organizing work like this is useful and makes life much easier, however a larger majority of individuals prefer to use notebooks rather than binders. Having all of your assignment work squeezed into one area is harder than a person may think. When you try to look for a specified class to get out an assignment, it becomes difficult because papers being to rip, get stuck in the rings, and many other disastrous things. It also becomes very time consuming while trying to get into a binder. When a student is looking in their binders for an assignment, it takes a long period of time to find what they're looking for, causing students to lose education time.
