1. What is your initial reaction to the question, Are leaders born or can they be taught?
I personally thought and think that anyone can be a leader. I feel this way because there are different kinds of leaders. I also think leaders can be taught by learning from examples set forth from other great leaders.
2. Now, use the Internet and find at least three articles or sites that discuss leadership. Based on your work, how is leadership defined? What are some of the best practices of leaders?
Based on the information that I found leadership means a person who is able to motivate, direct others to achieve goals and inspire along the way. One of the practices that stood out to me was helping people to achieve what they think is the impossible. Another practice I found to be amazing is being a leader is lifting others up and serving those who work with you.
3. Using the Internet, define successful leaders from the past 50 years, the past 25 years, and finally,

Explain how individuals are taught to become good leaders.
Leadership can be taught to the individuals that are willing to learn. They practice by learning from mistakes and gaining experience along the way. Most leaders learn from examples of other leaders. Additionally, Leaders never stop learning enabling a person to become the kind of leader they want to be.
6. Finally, are individuals mostly born or are they taught to become successful leaders? Explain. I think that most leaders are taught to lead. While a person may have more of an outgoing personality trait than others it does not mean they cannot be great leaders. As long as a individual is open to new learning experiences they are able to lead. I do not think that people are just born to lead, a leader needs real world education and experience. As long as, people are willing to learn every step of the way and keep their work environment positive. By providing coaching and training to help a person to be able to lead by
There are two kinds of people in this world, followers and leaders. Followers are the people that never take a leadership role in any activity. "They are more valued by followers and have higher performing teams." (Cherry 2014) However, leaders are the ones that use their leadership skills to make a difference in this world, such as presidents, teachers, or even college graduates. Leadership is not something you can learn from a book, but you have to gain this skill through experiences such as holding an office, organizing an event, speaking in front of people, or participating in a leadership program.
Leaders must be competent in their abilities to train others. Keep in mind, the ability to train someone does not require an individual to be in a leadership position. For example, a junior enlisted Soldier who is a Combat Medic may be able to train a junior NCO on Combat Lifesaver tasks because they are competent in that aspect. This is also one example of leadership being demonstrated on another spectrum thus, proving that everyone has leadership traits in them.
Leadership, which is defined as “…The action of leading a group of people or an organization” is used in many different ways. Most people think being a leader is mostly about being the boss, having people work under you and just becoming successful, but it boils down to more than that. Leaders are those individuals that actually utilize their many abilities in leadership and administration to help make a better change for themselves, the people around them and the goal that needs to be achieved. Leadership is not an expertise that can essentially be grabbed from a book or article based on leadership but instead it is one of those initiative abilities that are increased through experience and understanding those real life situations.
The debate as to whether leaders are born or whether they are made has provoked
Have you ever been in a situation where you had to take charge, and take on leadership roles in a short period of time? Some people may say that not everyone can be leader. Some also believe that leaders are born with the necessary qualities, which make them successful as a leader. Others believe that leadership, like many other character traits, can be learned and developed through life. The debate depends on how you define leadership, if you ask me. A leader can be made in certain situations of survival. It can range from promoting what is right to perform social changes, or just to execute their own ideas. When you are a leader you gain a certain sense of independence, and pride to that you started something. Therefore, when it’s finished you get to show people that you were able to accomplish all of this.
What is leadership? Are individuals destined to lead or are they mentored into it? Leadership can be taught and seen by hard work, mentoring and a specific mind set, but the great leaders are born with the leadership quality. Leadership is taken from hard work. If one individual sees another individual working hard than the other will try and help the fact and get the job done with more efficiency by he also trying his hardest. It has a conformity affect. If most people in the group work hard and keep their eyes on the prize than good things will happen. Leadership could have been taught by the worker that began the domino affect with the conformity of the group. He could have a very humble father that taught him that hard work pays bills. Therefore if he works to his abilities than the worker will receive riches. If a worker only half-asses it than he will not move up the chain of life. Some people have mind sets that make them successful. Herbert hoover, the 31st President of the United States was an orphan.( The Biography.com website.) This tells us that no one's life is invaluable, and that no matter what environment a person comes
Leadership is multidimensional. There is no straightforward way to describe what a leader is or explain who makes a great leader. The description will be shaped by the purpose of the work being done and the followers one achieves. Dye (2010) states that leadership is a “living phenomenon” (p. 14) and supports the need to provide personalization to the leadership style. There is much discussion on the development of a leader. Some believe that you are a natural born leader who fine-tunes those skills through “persistence and perseverance of failures and successes” (Blanken, 2013, para. 5). Others, like Blanken (2013), feel that exposures early in life begin the development of leadership traits, and “education, jobs, and life experiences then shape the leader’s philosophy and psychology” (para. 7). A dominant style might be apparent in a leader; however, the adaptability in leadership approaches allows the leader to be focused on
There are numerous theories about leadership. Some of the theories suggest that leaders are born while others suggest that leaders are made through training.
but a leader is a trait that is innate in a person; not everyone can be a leader as the role of leader
Leaders do not appear out of nowhere they have to learn from past leaders or role models. To be a leader you must obtain the skills that will help you to teach and lead others. These skills include a strong work ethic, honesty, hard work, integrity, confidence, creativity, and respect for others. Leadership is mostly learned through experience and sometimes failure. As a leader I believe that leading others is not about telling them what to do, or taking control, but being a role model and an inspiration as what to strive to be. This year, through AFJROTC, I have been given the opportunity to lead a small group of other cadets to organize the JROTC 5K. I learned the skills to lead other by following the lead of past leaders. There have been
Leadership is defined as the process in which an individual influences the group of individuals to attain a common goal. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and cohesive behavior. A leader infuses a sense of positivity and directs others to reach the specified goal. Some would say military leaders are made, or just got well trained to be a leader. I feel there are born leaders and some who are given the position to be a leader. Their qualities I think you should posses to be a great leader, such as: Ability to learn on the job, share credit for success, can control emotions, has ability to communicate goal and vision, and most important integrity. With these skills you have the keys to become a great leader like Abraham Lincoln, John
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and
LEADERS ARE BORN NOT MADE There have been an age long debate, and humans since beginning of time, have tried to come up with an answer to this question – Are Leaders born or are they made?. This question has generated an age long debate, which in turn has resulted in various school of thoughts, some believe that leaders are born, while others think otherwise. My contribution to this lifelong debate will serve as a pointer to my position on this issue. I strongly believe that leaders are born and not made. Who is a Leader? - “A leader is a person who guides others toward a common goal, showing the way by example, and creating an environment in which other team members feel actively involved in the entire process. A leader is not the boss of
Although I am in the process of becoming a good leader myself, I would also like to help those who look up to me become good leaders as well. I do attain most traits of those of a good leader but that doesn’t automatically mean I am a good leader. Another contributing factor to becoming a leader is time. My father did not become a good leader overnight and neither will I. It may take months or maybe even years but waiting is something one must be willing to
Leadership does not have one universally accepted definition; it is according me an ever-evolving concept. I firmly believe that even though individuals can be groomed and trained to be leaders, however some leaders could motivate and influence individuals around them more effectively/easily then others and direct an organization into a coherent and cohesive way in order to accomplish objectives and targets. This exact school of thought is actually a common thread or an existing element in various theories and
