“The Other Wes Moore” is a true story, written by Wes Moore regarding how he, and another boy with the same name ended up with two extremely different fates. Both Wes`s lived in the same area, grew up without fathers, had a difficult childhood, and became involved with drugs and other illegal activity. This book shows if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, then terrible things happen. When Wes (the author) found out of the other Wes, he began to visit him. Wes Moore wrote this book, because he was intrigued how similar their lives were, and realized that their fortunes could have been reversed. The influence and support that Wes (the author) had could’ve affected the other Wes life. In this book they emphasize the decisions you make and how they can include second chances, resources, plans, and goals. In chapter 3, Wes (the author) said, “I guess it’s hard sometimes to distinguish between second chances and last chances.” The decisions the Wes` made in their lives impacted their fates a great deal. The other Wes had multiple chances to change his life, but he kept making the same choices, and he kept overlooking the amount of chances he had, he never learned his lesson he wouldn’t give up the streets, and he discovers that he doesn’t have anymore. In the book Wes (the author) gets ready to jump out of the plane; he contemplates his life and the person he longs to become and begins to consider all of the people who influenced his life, which helps him, realize that he wants to stay at Valley Forge to attend junior college, It shows how much he grew, by recognizing how much the people in his life have influenced him. Wes had the resources he needed to succeed because of his support system. His mother and grandparents put him through military school which he attended until he received his associate’s degree. Attending military school helped Wes make the connections he needed to get into a good college. Wes knew that he was going to go to college and he stuck to that plan and received a scholarship and completed his master’s degree at Oxford University. All of the Decisions that Wes made impacted his life immensely and if he wouldn’t have decided to make those choices then there would’ve been a huge possibility that he could’ve ended up in the same position the other Wes was in.
