Me Talk Pretty One Day DITLS Analysis Paragraphs In “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris a humorous but insecure tone prevail in the text because of the French classroom and most predominantly because of the French teacher. In the story, Sedaris focuses on the trials and tribulations of learning a foreign language in a foreign country. He describes the details of the classroom experience he had while in France, and the insecurity that came about because of the classroom environment at hand. Furthermore he uses the development of tone in the ending of the story to illustrate his main idea or theme regarding his work. In the essay “Me Talk Pretty One Day” the diction helps create the humorous but insecure tone that the author is conveying to the reader. The word “foolishly” and the phrases “How very Interesting” and “Oh yeah? And do you love your little war?” help create the humorous parts of the tone throughout the beginnings of the draft (Sedaris 219-220). The Phrases “How very interesting’ and “Oh yeah? And do you love your little war?” point out the teacher’s sarcastic attitude when responding and rebuking her students answers. The word “foolishly” is another attempt to add humor at the students naivety to the teacher 's sarcastic responses towards them, and hinting that it was only the beginning of the torment.
