Most of the work of Equiano focuses on the abolition of the slave trade or in the worst case scenarios, in the improvement of the lives of the slaves. He worked tirelessly toward various resettlement projects, all of which envisioned a free haven for freed slaves, where they could live and work without fears of becoming slaves once more. Equiano continuously campaigned for the abolition of slavery and even lobbied the English Parliament in search of assistance for his plans and ideas. Among the most interesting and vivid arguments he presented in support for the abolitionist cause, Equiano used his own experiences as a freeman who had been enslaved as a child against his will and who had suffered all the perils, violations, and abuses the slave trade could offer. In his Narrative of the Life, Equiano petitions the Parliament to hearken unto the cause of the slaves, and he even includes a letter directed to the Queen in which he talks about the importance of the abolitionist movement.
