Personal Leadership Statement Essay

A leader is described as a person who guides or directs a group, but I believe it is so much more than that. A leader is a person that inspires people to do good and does good themselves. Due to my extensive volunteer work, I believe that I qualify as a fairly good leader. My outstanding leadership is shown clearly in my participation in community theatre. I have participated in the theatre community at Top Hat Productions, a theatre company located near me, for a couple years. My leadership in this company is shown through my ability to get people involved and my own participation.

A leader is someone who stands out among his or her peers and is chosen to be placed into a position that requires setting an example and providing direction for that group. Although anyone can be chosen as a leader, he or she must be willing and deserving of this position.

What does it mean to be a leader? Is a leader someone who can take control when a firm hand is needed? Or perhaps it is the man who is willing to stand up for what he believes in. I used to think of leaders as impressive and impeccable meta-humans. They were men and women who I thought were simply cut from a different cloth and beyond someone like me. Now I believe that a true leader, is that special someone who is willing to get up early and start making breakfast. I believe the hero takes the two-minute walk to find fresh water. During my time at NOLS Patagonia I was able to tune into what it truly meant to lead your peers. When I entered college with the mindset of tackling freshman year, I found myself unprepared for the workload.

The official definition of a leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country but, a leader is much more. A superior leader possesses creativity, courage, decisiveness, selflessness, and righteousness, but the most important characteristics consist of confidence, maturity and passion.

Imagine you’re going on a hike through the woods, and after an hour or two you’re ready to head back, but as you look around at all your friends you realize no one knows how to get back. Being a leader means coming forward and taking charge, and figuring out the safest and fastest way to get you and your friends back home to safety. Many leaders have many different behaviors and ways that they lead. Many times my friends turn to me to make decisions about what we will do, where we will go, or simply where we will eat. My actions toward the situation define my leadership skills.

Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Throughout my four years in high school, I have found myself in many leadership positions. This could range from being the leader of an extracurricular activity, an activity going on outside the school, or being a group leader in the classroom.

Being a leader is about giving other people confidence and helping them achieve their goals, and being ok with learning from others. A leader should not always be in authority or managing others, a leader works with their group and uses people's strengths to accomplish the goal. Not everyone is born to be a leader, but many become leaders. Similarly, to a way that I improved my leadership skill by learning from my mistakes. One day after school, my leadership skills were tested when I was left babysitting my younger sisters.
