In hindsight it is sometimes claimed that Reconstruction was a failure. Although there was some good that came out of the Reconstruction it was mostly just a relentless uphill battle against Southerners and immoral politicians that were here to delay change and keep racism alive. Reconstruction brought the Ku Klux Klan who displayed great resistance, and poverty that swept the South once the blacks were freed. The freedom of these black slaves led to discriminatory legislatures such as the Black Codes and the Jim Crow laws to keep the blacks constrained from actually being free. The South was then encountered with corruption and high property taxes, as a rebuild was in order to reestablish the war torn part of the nation.

After the Civil War, the South was strongly altered through a series of passed laws and acts in the a period known as the Reconstruction Era. This plan of reconstruction which was to bring reformation to the lives of Southern African Americans lasted from 1865-1877. This plan was brought by President Lincoln . Unfortunately he was shot and killed by a leader of a Confederate sympathizer, John Booth. As a result, President Jackson took office and was left in charge. The reconstruction was a great necessity for the fact that the result of this was a united nation between the North and South including the equality of African Americans.

The reconstruction era took place after the Civil War from the year of 1865 up to the year of 1877. The reconstruction of the South was not successful for many reasons. One reason being that during this era, the South were fighting for what they originally had wanted during the Civil War. The second reason why they were not successful is because of their time being spent arguing against the Freedmen’s Bureau instead of reconstructing the South right after the Civil War that had just ended after their loss determined the end of the of it. Lastly, the South were not able to put themselves back together because of the Republican Corruption that had angered the southern whites. Because of these reasons is that the Southern did not succeed from reconstructing themselves straight after losing to the Union during the Civil War.

What was the Reconstruction era? The Reconstruction era happened twelve years after the Civil War. This era was an attempt to increase freedom for the slaves, however, there was great resistance to this movement. Finally, after many attempts to reconstruct the South, the movement ended; leaving only whites-only in the government. Now the question stands, who killed the Reconstruction? The South had many attempts to reconstruct itself but many people resisted the movement. While the North just kinda let it happen.

An attempt to transform the Southern United states between the sad years of 1863 to 1877 to finally unite a kingdom that failed to racism and inequality was the idea of reconstruction. First, the three different perceptions of the Civil war came alive during reconstruction. The reconciliationist vision, the white supremacist vision, and the emancipationist vision. Then president lincoln was inclined to fix it all and invite the south back into the union, while congress tried to make African Americans feel like more than ⅔ of a person make their rights feel like an advantage to life instead of them being commandments that they have to carry and strictly follow. Lastly reconstruction led to the end of republican rule at different times in different places.

The Reconstruction Era was a period after the war where the federal government brought the Confederate states back into the Union. When Reconstruction began the Civil War had just ended. It was basically where America was striving to become a full running country

The era of Reconstruction was supposed to be a positive turning point for the United States. The North and the Confederacy was fighting to see who was gone represented the South. After the North beat the South there were a lot of hopes of the nation moving forward together, The south didn’t agree with the plan and wasn’t corporative. During, the Reconstruction era there was a failed attempt to bring the Nation together; there were some positive came from the Reconstruction and also some negative.

Reconstruction was a time period following the Civil War that lasted from 1865 through 1877. Reconstruction was a challenging task for the United States because the government had to figure out how they would help four million slaves acquire the rights they deserved. This was such a difficult task because the North and South did not have the same views on African American rights. In hope to piece the Union back together Abraham Lincoln devised a plan that would ensure rights to the freedmen, but after Lincoln was assassinated Andrew Johnson was put in charge and had a racist opinion that did not include African Americans becoming equals. To properly explain the failure that is Reconstruction, one must begin with the President leading the era, Andrew Johnson. Johnson’s plans for reconstruction seemed to have purposely oppressed African Americans. As seen in Doc F, Johnson even went so far as to veto the Civil Rights Act, claiming that as a result of protecting the rights of African Americans whites would be the subject of discrimination. However, congress had done something never seen before in American history, congress had overrode the veto with a 2/3rds majority and the civil rights act became law. This only added to the list of positive changes happening to the African American population as they also received access to education and aid from the government thanks to the Freedmen’s Bureau. All the positive changes affecting the former slave population was, to no one’s surprise, short lived. Legally, all former slaves were now free, as seen in the 13th amendment, and they retained all the rights reserved for US citizens, supported by not only the 14th amendment but also the Civil Rights Act. Reconstruction occurred from 1865 to 1877 in both the North and South, and the government's goals during this time period were to return the Southern States to the Union, rebuild the Southern economy, and to gain rights for African Americans. Reconstruction started once the Civil War ended. Although the war was over, throughout most of Reconstruction the Northern and Southern States were divided. There were different views on how to accomplish the goals set by the Federal government, and this brought conflict in the government and states. Many Southern and even some Northern white people also had an extreme dislike of African Americans which lead to African American rights not being completely enforced or created.

Just imagine that you were born when slavery was allowed in the United States. Better yet, imagine yourself as an African American/ black and being born into slavery. What would you do? Would you try to escape to freedom or remain a slave and serve “your master” until you die or until slavery is totally abolished? Well that’s when the Reconstruction Era comes in. The Civil War was a major cause that led to the Reconstruction Era. This was due to the Union winning the war between them and the South. The end of this war was thought to give freedom, peace, and stop the suffering of slaves all over the country, but the South didn’t want to let go of slavery that easily. Reconstruction was a time of great pain and endless questions for the United States of America. What was going to happen to the newly freed slaves? How would they be treated? Would the United States ever be one cohesive country? Many of these questions are still unanswered in today's society, but reconstruction was in place to try to rebuild the US after the devastation of the Civil war. The reconstruction era lasted from 1865-1877. During this time the United States military was stationed in the South, so that everything would run smoothly and hopefully allow for readmission of the once confederate states, back into the Union as one.

The United States was a divided nation prior to the Civil War and even during the Era of Reconstruction. After the Civil War ended in 1865, the country desperately needed to be rebuilded which lead to the Reconstruction. The purpose of the Reconstruction was to unite the nation, but many people believe that it might have caused another war. Important amendments like the 13th, 14th, and 15th were passed during the Reconstruction that granted African Americans access to freedom, citizenship, and suffrage. Although the African Americans were freed and given some rights, the Reconstruction and lack of political authority once again created a divided nation between white and black people. By 1870, the Northerner lost interest in reconstructing the south. The north tried to reconstruct the south and change southerners attitudes about black people. Although they failed at this because many southerners were still racists and believed that the white race was superior to others, blacks were not as good as southern white men. To add to that, the Northerners lost interest in the reconstruction, which gave southerners a chance to gain control of their state governments again.
