Response Paper Critik 2: Artificial Intelligence The technology humans have developed over the past century is quite outstanding in its capabilities. One might not think of a robot having any type of intelligence because inanimate objects do not have a conscious or mind. However, we have invented technologies that have “artificial intelligence”. Some examples of use for these types of technologies include unmanned aircrafts, robots in hospitals that can detect a surgeon’s patterns and assist as well, and AI systems that can analyze documents at law firms. One of the questions of concern about artificial intelligence is if it could cause high rates of unemployment. Humans have developed systems that are capable of performing tasks that do not require much human skill; however, humans perform these tasks as their employment. If we keep replacing these job positions with artificial intelligence rather than humans, unemployment rates will rise. In the past, machines have replaced humans in manufacturing plants and similar workplaces, putting people out of work. In today’s time, people who are employed performing simple tasks that may require some training are being replaced by artificial intelligence. David Autor from MIT claims that, “AI is “hollowing out” our …show more content…

Author Martin Ford gave his opinion on whether or not artificial intelligence could lead to massive unemployment rates. Ford points out that many economists believe that history shows that, as one sector of labor becomes automated, other sectors increase in the amount of opportunities for employment. However, Ford says they fail to take into account how quickly our technologies are developing in this day and time. Since we are developing these technologies so rapidly, we are not leaving time for other sectors to increase in employment as they are becoming more automated as well (Marshall,
