In the novel, Ethan Frome, there are two women that are apart of Ethan Frome’s pitiable existence, Zeena and Mattie. There are both acutely different from each other but they also share some similarities between themselves. Zeena and Mattie are different in many ways in the matter of appearance, their outlook on life, and their interest in Ethan Frome but eventually it shows towards the end of the novel that Mattie is not so much distinct from these qualities after “the smash up”.

The first feeling of this story is that the boy and his father struggle with their relationship, but as it unfolds, the reader sees how they do care for each other. It also becomes easier to spot the difficulties of communicating within a broken family. The father does a fine job to of turning the boy’s scheduling obsessions into a positive for the boy by noting it as one of his strong points.

This difference includes racial difference, and many racial minorities like Blacks are monsterized by Whites in the USA. Victor LaValle’s novel The Ballad of Black Tom explores Tommy’s acceptance of his monstrous identity as Black Tom. As a Black man, Tommy has no social or physical agency to fight back against the oppressive white structure, forcing him to ally with monstrosity (LaValle 130). However, as a monster, Tommy turns the oppressive system over by reversing the existing social order. LaValle’s use of repetitive actions of power suggests that Tommy’s monstrous identity empowers him by reducing the oppressive white supremacy

On the other hand, it could be articulated that the female characters in both the novels have proved their mental instabilities, individualisms and rebelliousness have disturbed the lives of others. Moreover, it could be analyzed in the novels that both the author in their social context has explained the dark secrets of the life of individuals.

In many stories, a hero has a major flaw which contributes to his downfall. The Story “Ethan Frome”, a literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin or suffers extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of a tragic flaw, a moral weakness, or an inability to cope with unfavorable circumstances. Our hero, Ethan, is the character with the tragic flaw, which is a flaw in the character of the protagonist of a tragedy that brings the protagonist to ruin or sorrow. His biggest flaw is the misuse of communication in the story which brings problems with Zeena and Mattie.

“Lust,” describes a young teenage girl who has mischievous meetings with many boys. The narrator, which is the young girl, attends Casey Academy which is a coed school. She is sexually active and does not fear pregnancy because she has been taking birth control pills since she was a young girl. The narrator describes her sexual expected gathering with the fifteen different boys she has been with, and when she talks about them she seems emotionally removed from the experience. The narrator’s parents don’t have a clue about what she has been getting herself into: “My parents had no idea. Parents never really know what’s going on, especially when you’re away at school most of the time. If she met them, my mother might say, “Oliver seems nice” or “I like that one” without much of an opinion...” (1029). I believe her heart trouble was a broken heart because of the loss of her significant other. Her husband friend stood by her side as she grieved over her husband’s death. In the story the author portrays the protagonist differently from the other characters because she talks about the physical appearance of other characters and when it comes to the narrator we have no idea what she looks like but she is developed partially through her relationship with other characters, although we the readers do come the find out that the narrator is around the age of 15-17 years old and we can assume that she has a bad relationship with her parents because first of all she talks about them maybe once or twice in the whole story and second of all we know that they sent her to boarding school so that alone proves that her relationship with them is lacking.
