Almost all children can name a time when they have gotten discipline. In fact in America alone 80% of kids have been disciplined in their lifetime. In out of that 80% of kids, 62% of the kids have said they have been disciplined by spanking. Spanking had become the norm in many household across America. In fact, the percentage of spanking in America is increasing by 5% each year. But why is spanking so popular in America you may be wondering? Well surprisingly it has a lot to do with traditions, adults who are parents in the 21st century grew up hearing “spare the rod and spoil the child” or “take a paddle to you “causing them to be accustom to spanking because it was used frequently in their childhood. As a result when the child is confronted with confrontation in the future the child will show signs of anxiety. Spanking can cause kids to have races thoughts or unwanted thoughts which is a factor of anxiety. Spanking has been linked to kids having races thoughts, which is when your brain feel as if your mind is about to explode due to thinking so hard. According to Maguire Jack the reason spanking has been linked to racing thoughts because when a child is confronted about their behavior sometimes a child mind be racing with anger or overthinking of what they did. “Kids who are spanked frequently throughout out there childhood has been linked to having racing thoughts due to the thoughts process of when they are confronted with physical discipline(Maguire-Jack)”. Kids who have racing thoughts usually grow up having this mentally illness in the future, which can make everyday adult life harder. Racing thoughts is not only a primary factor of anxiety but it can also causes frequently headaches.
Spanking can cause a child be depressed in the future. In fact, depression and spanking has been linked increasingly over time due to the fact that spanking has become more the norm in the last five years.
