In the late 1800’s, a thing called Industrialization started to occur. Industrialization is when our economy went from an agriculture (farming) economy to an industrial (manufacturing) economy. There were many very important leaders in the industrialization movement in the late 1800’s. Andrew Carnegie, George Eastman, Henry Ford and J.D Rockefeller were all Captains of Industry and had a big impact on the industrialization movement and made it more positive than negative. Industrialization had a positive impact on American society. The Transcontinental Railroad, the steel industry and the automotive industry all had big advantages during this industrialization movement. A gigantic part of our everyday lives. When you wake up in the morning, you depend on a car, bus or train to get you where you need to go everyday. Back in the 1800’s, only the wealthiest of people had the luxury of the automobile. During the Industrialization era, Henry Ford created this process of the assembly line. This is where one person made one part of a product is created then that piece is sent down to someone else who adds onto that unfinished product. Henry Ford used this in the process of constructing the automobile. The assembly line sped up the process of which a product could be made. Because of this, the price of that product decreased. The price of the automobile decreasing allowed the average person to have the luxury of the automobile. More cars were created through this assembly line which allowed more than one person to purchase their vehicle at one time. This made the car buying process to be smooth rather than having 30 people going berserk over one car that is available at one time. In entry 3, it states that more roads were built throughout the U.S. which allowed more goods to be shipped. More people from a variety of areas over the country would have access to a product that use to be only available to a certain region of the country. Increased roadways also allowed the citizens of the U.S. travel to more places for pleasure. Staying in one town or city your whole life isn’t amusing. Exploring different places is exciting and thrilling …show more content…
The Transcontinental Railroad allowed for more goods to be shipped to different sides of the country, which was good for the economy. The railroad also allowed people to move out west to start a new life in farming or just to get away from the populated cities. The steel industry. If this wasn’t created, we would have less railroads and less buildings in the cities. Steel is cheap which allowed us to building buildings. The increase in buildings also increased the population in cities. Steel allowed for more railroads to be built. More railroads equal more trade. The increase in trade strengthened our economy and gave more jobs to more people so we were able to continue trading that good. Industrialization was positive. Think of all the cities that were created because of it. Industrialization had a positive impact on the American
Firstly, the transcontinental railroad helped our trade and economy. The western economy was largely based on farming and mining which could have played a large factor in the American economy (Pohn Pei). There was just one problem, there was no way
Industrialization changed the Northern section of America in unbelievable ways. Americans would gain more jobs in factories, mills and banks, city life was booming, and both woman and men being employed in the cities. Money revenue would be generated and profited in mass production. Transportation became easier with the production of making parts or materials to build roads, steamboats, and railroads. Industrialization would trigger people to become invertors. Inventors seek new ideas of everyday use products to be easier or improve the machines to work faster and longer.
The Transcontinental railroad purpose of being built was to cause positive things to happen in the US and positive things did result from the railroad. For example, westward expansion increased because of the railroad. One reason why western expansion increased because of the railroad was that travelers finally found a use for the Great Plains like how they found “millions of acres of fertile soil, land for cattle, and a land of opportunity even larger than the Lone Star State”(Doc 1). Because people found these uses of The Great Plains, people started to move rapidly west to take ahold of these opportunities. This was a positive for the US because now more people are moving west increasing westward expansion, starting businesses, and are farming in the Great Plains which helped boost the US economy. Another reason why westward expansion increased because of the railroad is there was land in the west and after the railroad was built it was for sale for very cheap prices (Doc 5). This was a positive because with more land for cheap price people started moving west but it also is creating more space for people to live and during this time many immigrants from many countries are coming to the United States looking for opportunities and the more people that came to the United States the more space they needed because they needed somewhere to live. So now that they have more land more people are able to settle in the United States in the west for cheap low prices.
The Industrial Revolution was of great importance to the economic development of the United States. The new era of mass production kindled in the United States because of technological innovations, a patent system, new forms of factory corporations, a huge supply of natural resources, and foreign investment. The growth of large-scale industry in America had countless positive results, but also negative results as well. Industrialization after the Civil War affected the United States in several ways including poverty, poor labor laws, and the condition of the people.
First, the building of railroads out west played a huge part in the successful expansion of our country and the fulfillment of American dreams. Priot to the development of a more efficient railroad system, the movement of people and freight were
The Transcontinental railroad impacted America most economically due to the fact that it encouraged trading among the states. With the railroad up, states now had a faster way of getting their products in and out. People could get materials not native to where they were living in a matter of days by rail instead of weeks or months by wagon. In document F it states the economical impact that the railroads have had on our imports and exports. Even now we still use the tracks to export and import things like in 2014 the U.S imported 12.3 million tons of metals and exported 100.1 million tons of coal by rail. Since the railroad was very appealing to the American people, more were inclined to ship out their products by rail and by doing so helping the States collect more on taxes and the people with a fast and better way of transport.
All in all the industrial revolution had a positive effect on society, accomplishing things many do not realize and creating a turn of events that would put the USA as the world power. New farming methods meant better diets, which lead to lower death rates. Efficient and useful inventions, as well as machinery, made it easier for people to work, and made more job opportunities, as well as enjoyment in the workplace. More and easier ways of travel became commonplace, such as railroads. In addition, as cities began to grow, streetlights provided safety at night, and our economy grew greatly. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because it caused children to be used as workers and made school
These new railroads allowed western cities to bring raw materials and processed goods to eastern cities as well as manufactured goods to the west. The construction of the railroad not only effected the United States’ way of trading but also effected the nation’s population. After the transcontinental railroad was built, population drastically increased in western cities. Within thirty years, the population in most western cities had increased by hundreds of thousands (Document 5). The main purpose and most beneficial aspect of the expansion of railroads was the connecting of the east to the west and facilitating the transportation of goods and people.
While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of child labor, overworking and more, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects were that it was a step up for society, and made life easier and more productive.
During the late 1800's, America grew to become one of the nation’s leading industrial nations. The first industrial revolution had changed its pace from working on factories to the advanced transportation in the west
From the Gilded Age to the Progressive era industrialization modernized in every aspect. For example, constructing the transcontinental Railroads not only changed the economy, but also shifted the physical landscape. They required some towns to shift and some to move entirely to a different area. The railroads also helped America’s economy immensely. It helped with the industrial economy by requiring metal and steel to keep the railroads efficient and working. With the railroads there people also found jobs which helped with the increasing people’s social networks. According to Richard White just “the Pennsylvania railroad employed 110,000 men.”
The Industrial Age was an era of great change for the United States. It had both positive and negative affects on many Americans, depending on their economical status. Overall, the rise of industry was good for the United States. For instance, inventions such as steel from Henry Bessemer “became important in the formation of our nation”. It gave rise to railroads for transportation and also helped expand trade between the East and the West. It brought goods from the farmers to the markets. Steel also gave rise to better farming machinery, skyscrapers and structures such as the Brooklyn Bridge. Other new inventions arose from this Industrial Era such as the sewing machine and the typewriter. This gave rise to many new jobs for women and children,
America was truly revolutionized by the invention of the assembly line, with the Ford Motor Company able to mass produce these cars people could drive anywhere and everywhere. Fords invention also created many jobs. With higher wages and fewer hours Henry Ford basically created a middle class for the American Society. At this period of time no other company had a shorter work day. As Ford produced and sold more cars he raised the wages. The American economy began to strengthen as more work became available to the people. Roads needed paved and gas stations needed attendants. With the automobile becoming an everyday car people began to travel, the hotel industry began to boom and the market for tourism had evolved. Business owners all over America began to love Henry Ford; for his
There were three major aspects of industrialization that influenced U.S. society, economy, and politics; the emergence of big business, new technological innovations, and the spread of railroads. Between 1867 and 1920, the United States was transformed from an
Industrialization was very beneficial to American business owners. Following the civil war, industries transformed into modern powerhouses. Big business owners who seized power in these industries became even bigger. New inventions led to new thriving industries. Iron, for example, was replaced with ultra-strong steel. Andrew Carnegie built the biggest steal business in the world. One main reason why steel was in such
