This word is the most important because being wise is one of the best values anybody can learn. You need knowledge and wisdom to guide you through life. The feeling of people coming to you for help and taking what you have to say into consideration is the best feeling anyone can achieve. Not only are you smart, but you also have great intelligence. Acquiring this and having a growth mindset, makes you explore and see the world and mind in a whole different perspective. Being a holy man in the Lakota is a man who speaks the truth. Gives good decisions and is a man everyone sought after for advice. Having great knowledge for life and others was a great way to tell how a mind was like. Being a person of wisdom was a person of honesty and strength through words. From knowing when and what to say, but also from knowing what and when not to speak. Wisdom is the antidote for impatience. Lakota people were strong and always seeked advice when was not sure. All in all, we can all be wise and smart, we can look, see, and hear better with patience and
In the Lakota Way, Marshall teaches many different virtues that all are important to being a good person, but respect shines above them all. It is at the cornerstone of every virtue the author puts forth. It is clear in every story told by Marshall and in every lesson taught in The Lakota Way. Without at least a modicum of respect, the virtues taught by the Lakota would be less valuable to us as a society.

The book “Lakota Woman,” is an autobiography that depicts Mary Crow Dog and Indians’ Lives. Because I only had a limited knowledge on Indians, the book was full of surprising incidents. Moreover, she starts out her story by describing how her Indian friends died in miserable and unjustifiable ways. After reading first few pages, I was able to tell that Indians were mistreated in the same manners as African-Americans by whites. The only facts that make it look worse are, Indians got their land stolen and prejudice and inequality for them still exists.
Virtues are usually taught through the eyes of the wise, also known as the elder. In the book The Lakota Way, by Joseph M. Marshall III, his tribe teaches virtues though story telling. The virtues of the Lakota tribe and those of my family are more similar then I had anticipated, although we do have our differences.
People are climbing on the Lakota tribe’s sacred tower. Devils Tower is in the Black Hills in Wyoming and is the first National Monument in the U.S. (Leonard). It rises 1,267 feet above the surrounding and is 5,114 feet above sea level (Devils Tower National Monument). Despite its significance to the Native Americans, particularly the Lakota tribe, many people visit this National Monument. Some visitors also climb the Tower. The Lakota tribe members have been living in the Black Hills for many years and perform many ceremonies at the Tower. Like many sacred places in Native American tribes, they have a myth about how the Tower came to be. According to James LaPointe, three girls wandered off while they were marching along the Black Hills to gather fruits. Hungry bears chased the girls when something said “Paha akili,” and the ground began to rise. The girls were saved as the ground grew to be the Tower and the
Love is a force that inspires us to feel more, do more, and sometimes sacrifice for the object of our attention. Poems, music, relationships are all written in the name of love. There are six kinds of love, according to the ancient Greeks:
For years, the Americans and the Native Americans have been battling for the richest land in the area. It all began when the Americans decided to move onto the already inhabited land of the Natives. Instead of following peace treaties, the Americans used forceful tactics to remove them. There was a small piece of land that they did not take and that is now called the Lakota. The University of Nebraska did a study on Lakota reservation life and they stated that the United States was not very concerned about the land; they even said it was worthless. (Benjamin Jewell pg. 3) To the Indians, this land meant everything to them, even if the land did not produce much. The land the Indians attempted to have agriculture on was called, the Pine Ridge Reservation.

It can also feel like having a secure, safe spot when life gets too difficult. When most people think of love, they imagine a person. I imagine five. Five boys that were brought together and created something amazing for people all over the world. The band, One Direction. One Direction has greatly impacted my life and many others.
