Critical thinking is essential in business and in every aspect of life. The more time spent thinking critically about an issue or problem allows the thinker time to generate a response and a course of action. A person that thinks critically about a decision before acting has the best chance of getting optimal results. Team-A has completed the Thinking Critically simulation and has reviewed the results as a group determining that in business, thinking critically can make the difference between success and failure. In the following critique, we will discuss the problem evaluation tools and techniques from the simulation and compare those to the tools and techniques that we would have used in this scenario. Team-A will describe the …show more content…
First, obtaining information from Linda James was crucial to the success of the retail business; however, it would have been beneficial to also interview lower level executives who are closer to the front line of the retail business. This change in information gathering may have generated more useful data. Likewise, the facts and statistics that were collected were a wealth of information, but could have included supplementary perspectives. Brainstorming or Group Think techniques, for example, could have been used with both the junior and senior employees to make them feel more involved and to let them know that they have a voice within the organization. Working together, they may have been able to come up with other ideas that would help inspire the staff using lower cost motivation methods. Finally, the Urgency-Criticality Matrix was useful for setting priority, but utilizing Decision Tree methods could have also been valuable in this circumstance. Decision trees would have helped to assess the financial impact more completely by creating a tree of possible options and assigning an estimated value, cost or savings to each choice. Making the Decision The insights, corporate history, and recommendations offered by Linda James, were a tremendous asset in gaining an understanding of the corporation and its operation. Linda, a key stakeholder, was also instrumental in providing strategic clues.
Critical thinking has an important role in learning and development because if properly executed it allows me to see the entire situation instead of the individual task. I plan to take the necessary actions to determine the task with open eyes and an unbiased approach. Remembering the facts about the situation can help in resolving the issue. Understanding by reiterating the problem can help me further comprehend. Applying then analyzing the tasks and or situations so I can prepare the steps to come to the evaluation. I can see if the resources are accurate and thorough. The last thing I should be able to do to assure my critical thinking skills are complete is a form of creating. I take all the information of this situation, and use it in my final resolution. These steps are crucial in the ability to think clearly and not be clouded by biased information.
* The video clip “Thinking on the Job” in the Webtext this week illustrates the importance of critical thinking, especially in work contexts. Define the concept of critical thinking in your own words. Discuss a time in either your work or personal life in which you needed to be able to use critical thinking to either solve a problem or acquire a skill.
The reason why I chose that you would encourage more minority form firms to apply for these contracts is because any article of the city of Richmond versus Crow sign 1989 it really does state that it's illegal for the cities and states to give preference to minority owned firms but, with the amount of the racial discrimination that's going on you don't want to violate the equal protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment that way minorities get something better than nothing. To impose on the curfew law was because, of minors do not have the same Constitution protection as in the notebook with minors they are underage
We were four in our group and we were given a scenario of a patient who was having an anaphylactic reaction from bee sting venom. The group agreed that I will be the primary nurse. As the primary nurse, I knew that I had to lead and supervised our group in responding to the emergency situation at hand. Having played the role of a primary nurse in this simulation, I have gained meaningful experience, which I can use in my future nursing practice.
Why is critical thinking important? Provide an example of how critical thinking has helped you in your life.
The purpose of this paper is to describe the experience of the cascade simulation conducted in MBA 622: Critical Thinking. My cohorts and I were instructed that we had one hour to rank 12 items salvaged from a small plane in order of importance relative to survival. We were first asked to establish a list individually, then we gathered in small groups in an attempt to agree on our top five most important items. In addition to the group discussion, we also had to give an explanation on why we needed these items for survival. This particular experience helped us demonstrate individual and group problem-solving skills. We were able to use our knowledge and skills to achieve synergy under the limitations of “thinking first “and using the consensus and devil’s advocacy method of group decision making despite time constraints.
Despite the age and immensity of the Universe, we have not been visited nor been contacted by extraterrestrial beings because we are a part of a computer simulation. According to the Simulation Hypothesis, theory provided by Nick Bostrom, humans are unaware of being part of this computer generated simulation. The most compelling piece of evidence that supports this hypothesis is the fact to one can consider a sequence of possible situations which an increasing fraction of all people live in simulations becomes more accurate. The main concepts presented in the article are the varying definitions of each author on the concept of critical thinking. The information the author uses are definitions which are the opinions of varied authors and are similar in foundation in that to apply critical thinking one must be able to identify a problem, pose a question(s), provide valid supporting evidence, and come to a conclusion. Although the author’s definitions do not identify a problem, questions, evidence, or conclusions, the relationship Petress (2004) shows is that the reader must apply this process themselves as it is not always given. The information used does appear to be relevant, significant, and valid. The references the author listed does provide enough information for me to come to this conclusion. Since this work is a literature review and not a case study, numerical data are not necessary to determine validity of the information.

I agree with the authors on the definition and use of critical thinking and decision making skills. The benefits of being a critical thinker are enormous, they include being able to make effective decisions and learning to ask the important show-stopping questions. By using these skills you will be able to probe deeper and get to the heart of the issue. As stated in an earlier paper, the use of critical thinking when making crucial business decisions quite simply makes good business sense. Critical thinking skills are crucial in today's fast paced business world. Once these skills become
Every day as an instructional aide I use my critical thinking skills when deciding whether an impending conflict will escalate to violent behavior, deciding on how to approach a student Everyday many employees of organizations use their critical thinking skills in countless decisions, critical thinking skills are not the only skills used by employees, but they are the most important. As an employee I use my critical thinking skills when applying to the policies and procedures of my organization, making determinations, making predictions and problem solving more so on-the spot decision making, and
