This is usually done during the induction/training program of joining the army. During this period the instructors beast the initiates and build them up as a team so they can co-operate efficiently in the line of duty. Also with them being built up as a team and working everyday side by side there is less chance of them fighting amongst each other so order will be maintained. Social norms The psychologists Deutsch and Gerard said when it comes to social norms there are two theories. The first theory is that if you have a lack of information about something we usually do what the majority of the class/group are doing for example if you are waiting to cross the road and you don 't see the traffic signals changing because someone is in your way but you start to cross because everyone else is crossing even though you don 't know it is safe to cross. The second theory is that we conform to a group of people so we feel accepted by acting how they act or the way they dress. For example if I left the uniformed public service course and joined a art course in the college that they were all wearing a particular type of clothing eventually I would conform to the way they dress so I feel a part of the group the same in the public service you will conform to them so you fell accepted in the team. Discipline is important in most aspects of line, discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules and regulations, whilst using appropriate punishment to correct mistakes and disobedience. We use discipline to keep social and working order so that there are no complications. Discipline teaches people correct ways to act so that goals are reached and encourage people to accept responsibility in life. Discipline is not to get mixed up with punishment. Punishment is the consequence of not following rules and regulations.
Conformity is a concept that has been heavily researched in the field of social psychology. Conformity is defined as a change in behavior, beliefs, and attitudes due to group pressure perceived as real (encompassing the presence of others) or imagined (encompassing the pressure of social standards) (Myers, 2010, p. 192). The concept of conformity is a powerful influence on the tendency for people to arrange their thoughts, perspectives, and ideas with others, especially when in a group. This takes away from a person’s individuality because they want to feel accepted by others and therefore, a person will accomplish this basic need of approval through conforming.
Discipline is the quality of being able to behave and work in a controlled way which involves obeying particular rules or standards. However, it can be interpreted in an alternative way; if you refer to an activity or situation as a discipline, you mean that, in order to be successful in it, you need to behave in a strictly controlled way and obey particular rules or standards. Punishment can be used to correct disobedience in some circumstances.

It is when rules and boundaries are put in place and if those rules are broken then punishments are given to correct disobedience and to enforce discipline. By being disciplined it should also improve someone’s morale. It is about changing behaviour.

The main factor that influences conformity are social norms. Social Norms are a pattern of expected behaviour in certain situations either implicitly or explicitly. Conformity exists in two categories, normative influence where the individual’s desire is to gain social approval and acceptance from the group to make a favourable impression. And informational social influence where a person is looking for guidance in an ambiguous situation as the individual listens to other member 's views and opinions to be guided to an answer. Conformity is distinguished in three different types; Compliance is the most superficial type of conformity. It refers to a person who conforms publicly with the views and attitudes expressed by the group but still continue to privately disagree. This temporary short term behavioural change which often results normative social influence. For example, It is a student 's first day of college, but has arrived late and missed the induction to which he doesn 't know where to go. I do have past experience within the Uniformed Services Division, for a rather short while, but am sure it would still be taken into count (was removed from the division for inactivity ((had issues real life))). I have respect for everyone serving in the department and I assume this could be the reason why so far there has not been any insubordination, that I recall, directed towards myself. I am very used to discipline and being strict due to my background in the Police Department and military.
Introduction In the public services not only must you abide by the natural civilian law but if you chose a military service then you must abide by them also. This means that in the public services there are strict boundaries that you must not cross because in result of doing so you will be punished by the correct authorities. My prior understanding of discipline was uneducated and inaccurate. I was certain that discipline was related to punishment and the goal was to have a particular unwanted behavior to cease. A child that required discipline would be singled out, scolded, forced to perform a chore or action, such as sit for a time out, or the child would have something taken away, such as television or toys. As a child, I grew up in a household with parents who were primarily authoritative. They tended to be fair; however they did use punishment through "grounding", which generally meant that we were not able to engage in fun for set period of time. There is a fundamental human need to belong to social groups especially if people were to live and work together, it is likely that they need to agree on common beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviours in order to get along and fit-in. Thus, we learnt to conform to rules of other people, the more people see others behaving in a particular way or making particular decisions, the more likely people will feel obliged to follow the suit.
