Keeping a good standard of hygiene helps to prevent the development and spread of infections, illnesses and bad odours. There are many contributory factors that make up personal hygiene with the main ones being washing, oral care, hair care, nail care, wound care, cleansing of personal utensils. Personal hygiene is essentially the promotion and continuance of good health. Probably the most important aspect of all, food hygiene is very closely associated with personal hygiene. Poor personal cleansing can have a very significant effect on the start and spread of many illnesses through contact with foods, some that could be potentially life-threatening.
2. explain how to support the preferences and needs of the individual while maintaining their independence
You may work with different individuals each with their own preferences, wishes and needs. You will find out about these by reading individuals care and support plans as well as communicating with them when you are together. [ It is important that you follow care and support plans and understand and respect what the individuals you work with say they need. The General Social Care Council wrote a Code of Conduct setting out your responsibilities. These are some of the responsibilities you will have to individuals you support: Protect their rights and promote their interests Establish and maintain their trust and confidence Promote their independence and
It is important to have good personal hygiene because people feel better if they are clean and of good appearance. If a person feels good about themselves they will enjoy life more.
As a Health care worker I work in accordance with the Care Standard Act 2000, Codes of Practice and conduct, with the Legal and Organisational requirements, and procedures.
Keeping a good standard of personal hygiene is important for the prevention of the development and spreading of infection, illnesses and bad odours. Children are taught from an early age about personal hygiene and its importance at giving across a positive body image and to reduce the risk of being bullied. People don’t like to be talked about in
An outcome-focused review is part of the self-directed support process. It is a way of carrying out reviews that puts the main focus on the results being achieved for the person and his or her family. The purpose of an outcome-focused review is to:
Many individuals understand the importance of personal hygiene but are unable to complete all the tasks required by themselves, paraplegics and amputees may have great difficulty in keeping personal hygiene to a high standard and may require assistance. Individuals with learning disabilities or mental health problems may not fully understand the importance of personal hygiene, and support workers would need to prompt the individuals to carry out personal care, informing them of the importance of maintaining high levels of Personal Hygiene. Individuals may experience temporary physical immobility such as suffering from broken bones, or recovering from an operation. In this case, family, friends or support workers can give support to them.
• As a care worker we must follow all the rules and regulations regarding the policy of social care or what so called legislation. We should practice the high quality standard of care, always make it appoint that we do our job safe and properly with the clients as well as to our fellow carers. As guide or one factor to do the right description of our work we need to follow all the standards , attend trainings and update all seminars.
As a statutory adult social worker, I am responding to a service user’s self-referral regarding support for herself and husband, Ian, on hospital advice after Ian had a fall. Jackie, 69, is a carer for Ian, 66, who has increasing needs due to dementia. The visit’s objective is to explore cost-effective early help support services so Ian can stay independent and have better outcomes within his home. My duty is to conduct separate assessments which explain the couple 's situation. Ian is entitled to a basic needs assessment, whilst Jackie qualifies for a Carer 's Assessment, which focuses on obtaining positive outcomes for both by improving Jackie 's caring ability. Individual care plans will address identified needs in accordance with statutory guidance and each persons ' expressed wishes for preferential support. The aim of the visit is to provide comprehensive advice and information in relation to the couple 's rights and entitlements. In addition, I will discuss the assessment procedure so the couple can make an informed decision whether to consent to the assessment and any offer of support.
Maintaining high standard of hygiene and health are essential in preventing the spread of transferable disease and ensuring good health for the community. (The Department of Health & Human Services, State Government of Victoria, Australia, 2016)
“The results of this qualitative study indicate that beliefs about the importance of self-protection are the main reasons for performing hand hygiene. Lack of positive role models among and social norms established by senior physicians may hinder compliance. The results from this study should inform methods for stimulating hand hygiene compliance in healthcare settings. If hand hygiene is indeed mainly influenced by the desire to clean oneself and by the behavior of other healthcare professionals, then workshops and courses that focus in patient protection may have little effect. The best methods for improving hand hygiene compliance may involve encouraging senior healthcare workers to be compliant and creating a supportive environment with readily available and easily accessible hand hygiene facilities”
Hand hygiene compliance is very relevant in health care. At study by Creel (2015) evaluates whether or not monitoring interventions improve hand hygiene compliance (Creel, 2015). Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) can be detrimental to not only patients but also visitors, workers, and families. Considering the fact that most patients in the hospital are highly susceptible of having compromised immune systems, it is imperative that healthcare professionals take the proper necessary precautions, such as effective hand hygiene, to decrease the risk of transmission. This is a cost effective management of infection control that can potentially save lives.

Hand hygiene plays an important part in the health care sector if it can only be applied many people’s lives can be protected, it also is an important part of nursing practice (WHO, 2009). As of now and the rest of my career as a nurse l also have a vital role to play when working in the practice to prompt other healthcare workers to conform h hand hygiene practices. Each time l fail to comply with proper hand hygiene practices, l will be putting the patients at risk. I must put patients at the centre of everything that l do by making their care and safety the main concern that includes good practice to hand
Many people don't understand the consequences of improper hygiene. However, they also don't understand the benefits of correct hygiene. This results in being unclean and unsanitary, which can lead to issues in the professional world, a person’s overall health, and their social life. Proper hygiene leads to a better chance of getting a job, overall body health, and it improves self-esteem and social acceptance.
As we have seen, personal hygiene is an important concept that affects just about every single living person.
Physical examination revealed 57.1% children had dirty nails, while 45.6% and 17.8% of them had dirty uniforms and dirty hair respectively. Thus the study concluded that sizeable number of the children had adequate knowledge of basic personal hygiene, their practice related to same was poor.(2)
