Over the course of the month of January, I have experienced different events that have enhanced my learning in this area. These events fall under the first, third, and fourth learning objectives of Communications Capabilities.
Before taking any courses, this student had a general idea of how communication is an essential component in any working environment. After taking many courses in the Polk State Bachelor's program, the course GEB 3213 (Advanced Communications in Business) was a course that enlightened this student on the essential skills and concepts that are necessary to know when working in a professional environment. This course taught this student how to be able to structure business communications for maximum effect through style, tone, and grammar, how to comprehend the strategies used to construct the types of business messages commonly used in the business environment, for example, like how to write a professional email. Also this course taught this student how to effectively research and organize information into effective business reports and visual presentations. Not only did this course set this student up for a bright future in the business world through means of communication, but this course also helped this student's writing when it came to completing the rest of her bachelors courses in the this program. First, I learned that I need further development or additional polishing in numerous facets of becoming an effective communicator, and these aspects are audience analysis and strategy, oral communication, team communication, and corporate communication. After completing the Communication Development Plan, I am beginning to learn how to analyze audiences and develop a thorough communication strategy efficiently. Also, I am learning how to deliver impromptu or planned presentations efficiently, and I am starting to become more comfortable and less hesitant in giving presentations. After analyzing the Communication Development Plan and through class assignments, I have become more creative and relaxed in the team situations. Additionally, I have gained insight on how to effortlessly communicate in a corporate environment, and that I can apply what I learned in this class to my workplace. Lastly, I gained valuable knowledge and insight that can aid my professional growth.

Skillfully, this course has changed my outlook on new elements which continue to develop and expand my communication skills both personally and professionally. Although I’ve acquired skills through experience, this course enhanced my communication skillset by adding valuable meaning, volume, and structure in all forms necessary to prepare a well-thought-out message. As a result of following the three-step writing process, I’ve learned how to define a purpose, prepare an outline by using sufficient information, select an appropriate approach and incorporate the correct channel to transmit an effective message.
