Sieur Jean de Joinville (1224?–1317?)

Joinville, Jean, Sieur de (zhwa-vēl’). A noted French chronicler; born in Champagne in 1224; died there (?) in 1317 or 1318. He took part in Louis IX.’s crusade, and on his return spent his leisure composing his invaluable ‘Memoirs,’ which embody the important ‘History of Saint Louis,’ sometimes treated as a separate work.
