Concept explainers
To determine:
The function of roots, stems, and leaves.
Introduction:
Plant cells act as building blocks for plants. These cells contain chloroplast, where photosynthesis occurs. It is an important process in plants for making food, by using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
Explanation of Solution
Roots − These are the organs in vascular plants that anchorage the plant to the ground and transport water and other nutrients throughout the plant. Roots are of two types, secondary roots and primary roots. Primary roots grow downwards and secondary roots grow sideways.
Stems − It is an important organ in vascular plants. Its function is to support leaves, fruits, and flowers of the plant. It also transports water and dissolves nutrients across the other parts of the plant.
Leaves − Leaves are very important for any vascular plant. Leaves contain chloroplast, that further contains chlorophyll, that is green in color. This green pigment absorbs light energy, and convert it into glucose, chemical energy, in the presence of water and carbohydrates. In leaves only, food for plants is made.
