Plants show both indeterminate and determinate growth. The indeterminate growth occurs in root and shoot that grows throughout their life. The leaves exhibit determinate growth (growth ceases after a definite period of time).

Plants exhibit two types of growth: primary growth and secondary growth. Plant’s primary growth involves growth in plant length. It usually occurs in roots and shoots. The apical meristem tissues allow this type of growth. On the other hand, the secondary growth involves growth in thickness. The lateral meristem assists in this type of growth. The secondary growth occurs in those parts of plant in which the primary growth has been stopped.
