Concept explainers
(a)
To Find: Sum of the vectors graphically.
(a)
Explanation of Solution
Introduction: A vector is quantity which has magnitude as well as direction.
In addition of vectors graphically, the vectors in the same direction are considered as positive and vectors in opposite direction areconsidered as negative. Here, D and A are inopposite direction so the resultant vector is as shown in figure below.

(b)
Explanation of Solution
Introduction: A vector is quantity which has magnitude as well as direction.
In addition of vectors graphically, the vectors in the same direction are considered as positive and vectors in opposite direction are considered as negative. Here, C and D are in same direction so the resultant vector is as shown in figure below.

(c)

(d)
To Find: Sum of the vectors graphically.
(d)
Explanation of Solution
Introduction: A vector is quantity which has magnitude as well as direction.
In addition of vectors graphically, the vectors in the same direction are considered as positive and vectors in opposite direction are considered as negative. Here, E and F are in opposite direction and equal in magnitude. So, the resultant vector is as shown in figure below.
