Concept explainers
To explain: The reason of not falling of golf ball at a faster rate than tennis ball.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Acceleration due to gravity:
It is the acceleration of an object due to the gravitational force of earth. It is a vector quantity since it has both magnitude and direction.
It is represented by g and its standard value on earth’s surface is
As, force of gravitation is given as,
Here
And
Since,
Thus,
As from the above equation it is clear that acceleration is independent of the object’s mass. Due to this reason, golf ball does not fall at a faster rate than table-tennis ball. Both golf and tennis ball will fall at same time with the same speed.
