Given data:

The area of Antarctica is 13 million square kilometer or 13×106 km2. The thickness (width) of the ice is 300 m near the coast and 1800 m in the interior. The ice and water have roughly the same density, which is 103 kg/m3.

Formula used:

The expression for volume is written as,

V=Aw

Here, V is the volume, A is the area and w is the width.

Density of a body is calculated as,

D=MV

Here, M is mass of the body in kg and V is volume of the body in kg3.

The expression for calculating area of a sphere is written as,

A=4πr2

Here, r is the radius of the sphere.

Hence, the volume of ice in Antarctica is 13.65×106 km3. In case the ice of Antarctica melts, the depth of the oceans will increase by 36 m. Thus, the places below this level will submerge under water. The low-lying areas and the coastal regions and the islands will probably submerge under water in such a situation.
