Hi Kaitlyn! I enjoyed reading your insights on the Employee Satisfaction Survey. I think you have some great views and ideas on what this organization needs to do to create better leaders and improve employee satisfaction. I don’t think that you need to stop any of the leadership skills that you have listed. I think you have a great grasp of the fact that the employees do not feel they trust in their management and that is hurting the organization. I think that if you wanted to add to your idea, some of the skills associated with ‘Encourage the Heart’ leadership behavior would help the employees feel appreciated and celebrated by the managers for their contributions which would help with the low scores in these areas. Some ideas for skills to add to your plan could be wanting a leader who is clear and concise both in their expectations and standards for employees. This would apply to the communication piece that you had discussed. Clear and concise standards and expectations will help employees to feel confident in the managers and how they are evaluated in their positions. Another could be thoughtfulness; this would help a leader to be mindful of needing to celebrate employees for contributions and make them more relatable for the employees as well. These skills would all raise scores for ‘Encourage the Heart’ and help build better leaders. I like that you discussed compassion and honest communication in your plans. Compassion really does seem to be lacking with the employees being consistently dissatisfied with management interactions. Any relationship needs to be based on honesty, if the employees do not think they have honest managers there is no real trust and therefore no relationship to feed. Compassion is necessary for the managers to have any empathy or understanding for those they are trying to lead, and if you don’t understand those you lead then you will not be a successful leader for long because you cannot fulfill the needs of your followers. Hope you had a great Holiday season and have an awesome New Year! Amanda Hi Heaven! I really enjoyed reading your post. I think you have some great insights into what the Employee Satisfaction Survey tells us about the inadequacies in leadership and management this organization is suffering. I think that the skills and behaviors that you suggest improving upon will aid in the improvement of employee satisfaction for this organization along with creating the leadership it needs. ‘Modeling the Way’ is a fundamental practice because it is how leaders earn, sustain, and build credibility. I think adding some improvement with skills associated with this area will add to your plans’ success and help support the change your ideas would make. Effective leaders do what they say they will do, and having authentic leadership who follow this practice is crucial to an organization’s future success. Providing workshops or training for managers to learn to clarify their own values so they can tie that to the organizations mission and vision will help managers to be clear and confident with employees in communication because they will be clear themselves as to what they are communicating. This could aid the communication piece you have discussed as well as connection, because it is much easier to connect to a person if you understand what they are communicating to you. If your manager tells you to change
something, but they are confused and uncertain as to what they are asking you to change, you are not going to trust that person to lead you very far! I really liked that you touched upon the fact that great leadership needs to “value each employee as they are contributing to the business’s success.”. From the survey the employees seemed to feel they are not outwardly valued by their managers. I think this is so important to inspire motivation for those you lead. Without recognition of contributions, employees can lose motivation to continue to contribute or to improve in their roles. You clearly understand the importance of feeling appreciated and I think that is so important in creating great leadership. Hope you had a great Holiday season and a happy New Year! Amanda 1.
