Nurses are responsible in providing holistic, quality care to their clients. In order to effectively provide such care Boswell and Cannon (2009, p. 2 & 7) states that nurses must base their provision of care on the most current, up-to-date health information available and sound nursing knowledge. This is where evidence-based practice (EBP) comes in. Polit and Beck (2010, p. 4) defined EBP as "the use of the best clinical evidence in making patient care desicions". This usually comes from research conducted by nurses and other healthcare professionals. Thus it is pertinent that research reports are critically analyzed.

Qualitative research reflects different ways that researcher’s collect data and explore all of the information through literature review. A qualitative study delves into a social or human problem in hopes to formulate a theory about that phenomenon. Paterson et al. (2005) performed a qualitative study that formulated a theory on how male nursing students learn to care. The researchers discovered how and what aspects perpetuated males to learn to care for patients empathetically while in nursing school. This paper will critique the above study noted and provide rationales.

The following qualitative annotated bibliography is a quick summary of articles that are important for my research about antimicrobial food packaging. Moreover, it includes my opinion about the content of the articles and the evaluation of the materials. I have a background in Food Engineering and I am very interested in helping to reduce food waste by increasing the shelf life of edible products using antimicrobial food packaging. Furthermore, by using these kinds of package it would be possible to reduce chemical food preservatives as well as maintain food quality.

Research, educational and action, are key to the continued improvement of educational methodologies and strategies. Educational research provides theories and pedagogy by organizing “empirical facts” (Johnson, 2012, p. 9). These scientific studies reach peer-reviewed conclusions that can be applied in multiple situations. Action research is more specific and focuses to provide a usable action plan (Johnson, 2012, p. 16).

Research is used in nursing to support evidence based practice (EBP) and is done through qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research will be the emphasis of the study performed by Wittich and Southall (2008) analyzing the diary of a 66 year old female and her personal journey of managing the extended time period of being positioned facedown after her ocular surgery (p. 437). Description of qualitative research and evaluation of the qualitative evidence, trustworthiness, and thematic coding will be discussed in the body of this paper.

Death is something that we all have to deal with, be it in our profession or in our daily lives. This article discusses the reasons why caring for dying patients is stressful for nurses and is a high risk for burn out. The article also gives findings related to the study and gives recommendations based on the results. The study shows that education is needed for the nurses that care for the dying patient.
