Essay About My Writing Experience

I learn best by being relaxed and concentrated in my work/jobs. I certainly learn by writing things down because it helps me memorize things in a better way and it can serve to me as a study guide as a future which helps me learn. Learning by just listing and without writing is difficult for me because I can capture that much information in my brain without writing it down it just doesn't save in my memory. In contrary if there are talking and they have a PowerPoint slide or they have something projected related to the topic then that would help me grasp that concept better and later excel in that area. For me writing things down and seeing things in slides is a better way for me to learn because it helps me obtain knowledge of the concept

Ever since I was in elementary school, I have had a strong fascination with literature. Overtime, I had a plethora of books lining my bookcases and barely had room for any more. Reading was a necessity to me and it still is to me today. I eat, sleep, and breath literature because I feel like it’s essential to my academic career. Literature does many wonderful things like, teach me about life lessons, transport me to a new world that I have only dreamed about going to, and discover new vocabulary.

Overall, I enjoy writing. Preferably, I find comfort in writing without expectation or criticisms. I am familiar with the areas of my writing that need improvement, but my apprehensions stem from lack of time, discipline, and focus. It is undeniable that I enjoy writing as a free form of expression to keep secrets or share, it is a leisure for me. So, I will not take the time necessary to hone my skill set any further than what required of me during my academic career. When it comes to discipline and focus I find myself passionately articulating and editing my thoughts when I have an interest in what I am writing. Yet, when the subject matter is not captivating I do not put in nearly as much effort as I would if my heart was in it. Writing

I would like to say that I write for pleasure, or that the process of writing can clear my thoughts as I put them down on paper; however, most of the time they become jumbled up instead. I write for a grade, an assignment that has to be done for school. I almost never enjoy it, but I know it has to be done. I write when I have to, it is something that as humans we can never stop doing. It is persuasion, information, communication, entertainment, and so much more.

I first started writing around when I was in the third grade. I loved to read fiction and I wanted to write it too. That year I had a story about my hair published in an Akron newspaper. Getting that story published made me feel really excited about something and I wanted to continue to do it forever. Eventually, we had to start to learn to write in cursive and I hated it so, I slowed down on writing during school and at home. I would still get good grades on reports and writing assignments but I never enjoyed it as much. I could never find the desire to write but when I did write I was never happy with the outcome.

My best piece of writing for this class would be the annotated bibliography because there was a structure that I was supposed to follow, so I was more confident since I knew what to write. My writing process didn’t change much because I would write the topic sentence or a brief sentence of what I knew I wanted to talk about in a paragraph, then went back to discuss my ideas after writing down some other topic sentences. However, I did change how I edit my papers. I used to go back and edit everything on the final draft, but this time around, after every draft, I would try my best to edit at least one or two things within a paragraph.

What identifies me as a writer consist of how I work with my writing process. Basically I prepare myself with notes and additional information before I write my paper so it would not be confusing at all. I also go through multiple strategies or steps to write different papers that consist of the majority of typing, distractions, and how I concentrated. My writing process is summarized by three pictures, the first one is a computer screen with in blank besides on line, a boy distracting a girl from reading a book with an airplane, and a person driving into the sunset. These help me most of the time by getting my paper done within a few hours but that takes a lot of effort especially with what types of distractions, how focused I am and if I motivated to type.

Writing any sort of paper takes thought, time, and work. My writing process is like going on a strenuous hike. When going on a strenuous hike one must plan ahead and research where they are going. In writing one must do research and get all the knowledge that they can on the subject. Once the hike is all planned out and ready to go it is time to start on the hike, you aren’t necessarily focused on details at the time because you haven't made it to your final destination yet.. This is like starting on the rough draft, writing down and getting all your ideas down without much regard to grammar but just trying to get all your thoughts onto the paper. Then after you have been walking for a while you probably will need a break to hydrate and regain energy for the rest of the hike. Often times when writing papers you take breaks between drafts and even in the middle because writing can become monotonous. However, after taking a break you have probably

I have never been passionate about writing, but I have always been a pretty good writer. I was always told that I wrote at a higher level through elementary school and throughout high school, I took two years of Honors English and two years of AP English. I did very well in those classes and usually received A’s on my papers. However, I have never loved writing and would often dread writing assignments.

Everyone has a different process they usually run through while writing a paper. In the past, I have always gone straight for the computer when I wish to start on a particular assignment. Whereas some may prefer to put their words on paper first or prepare a detailed outline, I stick to opening up a word document and writing the first thoughts that come to mind. Teachers have practically drilled into my mind over the years that outlining will help my writing, but personally I repeatedly struggle with structure, and prefer to write right away and clean up later. Furthermore, often times I will think of a new idea while writing a paragraph completely unrelated. Instead of abandoning this thought, I tend to bullet point at the bottom of the word document to remember to incorporate it at some point in the paper. Thus, I approach a paper more freely and choose to type what’s on my mind currently, as apposed to copying from an outline or a handwritten essay.

A few years ago, I learned a new form of writing: IEW, which is Institute for Excellence in Writing. Before I learned this, I had a struggle trying to put my thoughts together in a way that would sound professional. I had no organization for my words so they would flow together nice and smoothly. Unfortunately, I lacked excitement. I wasn't excited about what I was writing and did not "get into it" too much because of this problem. I also did not know how to cite a quote or anything along those lines without asking my mom how to do it and not learning how to do it myself. Every sentence I wrote started the same. You could tell by just glancing at the page that every sentence started

Throughout High School, my writing experiences have been different depending on the teacher. During my four years I have had English teachers who either treasure reading their students papers or the exact opposite. Coming from Middle School I loved writing because my teachers always made it exciting for me. Freshman year my teacher had our class only write two essays. She did not even read them judging off of the fact that everyone in the class received an A, therefore I learned nothing. When I moved onto tenth grade I still had a passion for writing even after a bad year of English, but when we starting writing the persuasive research paper I fell in love more. Most of my friends loathed going to English because they knew they had to work

It seems that every writer sat down and just stared at a blank sheet of paper or at a blank screen on their laptop. At that moment writers are trying to processes the materials in their head and trying to figure out how to start writing or typing a well organize essay. As one of those writers, I have trouble starting my essays, I prefer to be in a quiet area to process my thoughts, and before I start writing I prefer to make an outline to make my essay a lot easier.

When I begin the writing process, I throw ideas down after I’ve gathered all the necessary information to complete the paper. My outlines consist of scattered ideas that I slowly build on and relate to each other as my claims build. I because I build and try to relate each paragraph so that it flows, actually contributes to the fact that my papers usually do not flow and are repetitive. Even for this very reflection, I fear repeating the fact that my papers are repetitive.

Who am I as a writer? If I was asked this before I was in College Comp, I would say I’m unsure. With countless ventures trying to figure out what type of writer I am. Now that I explored the art of writing with the help of journal entries and major papers, I feel like I created my own sense of writing that Is special to me. Building on my experience as a public speaker, I’ve bettered my writing skills and process during college composition.
