Why You Should Join Twitter? Introduction (Attention Getter) Are you an aspiring or existing entrepreneur who wants to take his business at new heights? Do you want to market your business, product or service in a unique and innovative manner? Do you have a great skill and/ or business idea but lack necessary connections and PR to successfully implement it? Do you want someone to listen and understand your point of view? Do you want to make sure that you are up to date with what is going on around the world and get the news as it happens? Imagine if you can get all your problems solved with just one click and that too absolutely free. (Proposition of Policy) If your answer is in positive to any of the above mentioned questions then twitter is certainly the place you should be at. (Common ground with audience) Like many others, I was very sceptical and reluctant about joining Twitter as I could not understand the point behind writing 140 character tweets being read by people I do not know. However, as I got onto it and studied a bit of its dynamics I started enjoying it and valuing it more than any other social networking mediums. (Ethos & Credibility) I did a lot of research and interviews where I got an immensely charged response about why people would want to join twitter and how they find twiiter so addictive. It is true that unlike other social media networks such as Orkut, My Space and Facebook, Twitter has been a network that picked up very slowly. It is also
Twitter; a social media platform which connects millions of people together, is one of many
Proclaimed as the hottest company since Google and Facebook, Twitter introduced a revolutionary micro-blogging service in 2006 that allowed users to spread and share short messages of 140 characters (“tweets”) with friends and strangers subscribing to follow their communication flow (as so called “followers”) in order to find out what is happening right now from any point of the globe.
One of the advantages of twitter is a very simple and educational social network. This allows to be aware of everything that interests you, such as communities, celebrities, or just people who are not famous, but they write very interesting things. Although the twitter is a social network where you
Lindsay Lebresco, director of brand and digital marketing at Lehigh University says that “Social media allows us to build relationships with students before they come to campus. It’s a great way to show, as a university, that you’re engaged in the conversation that matters to your community. It can also be an important step in creating connected students from the start of their four-year experience. An example of this would be a girl named Klaudia Jazwinska who had contacted 2 colleges through twitter. The colleges were Lafcol University and Lehigh University. Lehigh had convinced her through tweets and when she got there Jazwinska said “I connected with current students and professors who were eager to answer my questions and share their own experiences”. This proves that social media can also help you instead of affecting you in a negative
On a positive note, social media sites such Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are turning into a common source of alternative news and national news for people that use the Internet. Some sites like Twitter are known for being ahead of traditional media when it comes to breaking news. If you use social media well you can create many necessary changes in society. Twitter for example, you can easily start a change and gain a lot of attention, if you are frequently online and constantly update your feed to spread awareness. When using Twitter to create social change you have to interact with your followers a lot, ask them for their thoughts, share your reaction and thoughts on relevant news, try and fit with the use of hashtags to get things trending that way it will be seen by many, post or repost different links and retweet other tweets as well. Discuss things with your followers, spark conversations with them, and build relationships with your followers. These networks
Twitter as a platform was originally created with the intent to have the users become microbloggers (Arceneaux and Weiss). Now as we’ve seen, the platform has essentially turned users into mobile journalist, allowing them to be the creators and distributors of information. Twitter has been useful in support of the movement in various way. First, the platform offers reliable media coverage. Most of the general public turns on the news to stay updated but others log into Twitter. The reasoning why is because Twitter is known for broadcasting live videos and information before major news outlets. Furthermore, unlike the media, Twitter users, majority of the time relay the information promptly without misrepresenting or biasly giving out false information which major
In the video "Gordon Brown: Impact of Twitter", Peter Daou explained how Twitter has changed communication and spin of media, but not policy. Twitter is a great communication platform, but it does not benefit the masses. I actually have a Twitter account that I have not used in a few years. I don't find Twitter as useful as Instagram, Facebook, or even Pinterest. I like the business aspect of Twitter, but the social aspect is almost dead and gone. I did notice that most Twitter users did not tweet or even follow anyone. Twitter is a social media platform for people to watch other users activity and retweet a post someone has already made. I also think Twitter is more harmful to users than it is good. From my own experience with Twitter, I've
It began as “a system where you could send a text to one number and it would be broadcasted out to all of your friends…” Then five months after Twitter’s launch, an earthquake in San Francisco happened- except this earthquake had people who were experiencing it using Twitter to share their stories, which led to another group of people who heard about the earthquake using Twitter to get information from a place they were not in. These were not the only groups of people using Twitter during the earthquake, but they are the best example of interpretative flexibility. Two groups of people both using the same app, but for one group it’s a means of sharing information and for another it was about collecting that information—and that right there was the basis of Twitter. Closure took hold for a while because even though the app was still used to communicate with friends, it became more of an information sharing platform than it used to be. Then, more groups joined and the use of Twitter changed again. The rise of social media created a new way to interact and soon led groups of investors, celebrities, politicians, scientists, and even soccer moms to use the site to network, advertise products, educate themselves, and start important conversations. Twitter was no longer just a place to trade information, it became a business. And as newer generations of people begin to download Twitter, it will change again. Currently, the majority of Twitter users are shaping this application by using it as a political platform to share, stop, and acknowledge injustice. Yet, just a year ago, it was more often than not a place where people got their first reports of natural disasters, sport scores, celebrity deaths, and spoilers of popular television shows. It was not a place where you would see people from all types of different groups fired up over politics and state of the world in the extent as it seen today. And yes, Twitter
If we examine Gladwell article alone, it seems that he exaggerates when referring to technology as being used so often. However, with Wortham’s help, we see now that technology being used daily for everything even for personal intimate things as relationships. Therefore, when Gladwell writes, “where activists were once defined by their causes, they are now defined by their tools” (401), he refers to the immense amount of technology usage, which makes even activists use technology as their tools. In addition, Wortham helps us grasp the amount of technology usage that makes activists use social media as their tools. Moreover, we can understand better Gladwell claim, “Twitter had scant internal significance in Moldova, a country where few Twitter accounts exists” (403). Gladwell’s point is that social media is not the reason for the revolution in Moldova where few there is few Twitter users. Therefore, while Wortham claims that people using social media daily, Gladwell states
Through social media, information technology has transcended geographical borders and spread ideas and information on a global platform. It is via this platform that the public has been able to address key issues in society, resulting in a number of socio-political movements to emerge and strengthen in a short amount of time. The particular social media network that has transformed the way we communicate and disseminate information in this manner is Twitter. Within its unique feature set and multi-platform presence, it is becoming even more evident that it contributes significantly to mediating cultural performances online not only amongst its users but also amongst the world at large.
Tweeting started with Twitter, which is a very popular social network. Tweeting is used to connect to people or the world in a way they never thought possible. It’s directed to public, however can also be directed to a certain person, meaning shout out or chatting with multiple in the same time. I didn’t know how to use twitter at first, but then I got the hang of it, it something similar to Facebook and Instagram. According to Peggy Orenstein “I tweet, Therefore I am” she states that “the social networking site” Twitter allows people to share, almost instantly, moment in time (as long as we can summarize these moments into 140 characters or fewer.)(pg.251). In contrast, Tweeting limits you on how much character you can write, it only allows 140 characters which include hashtags also. I feel like it is forcing us to use abbreviations and other forms of speaking. Some people use tweeting as their way of escaping the reality, others use tweeting because they just like to talk and are addicted to social
In order to build personal relationships with their followers, the sample clubs utilized public messages (82.8%) more than other communication tools because they had to use the “@” symbols to reach other Twitter users and to participate in conversations. Also, 48.6% of interactive tweets were actually retweets. Clubs could share the lives and feelings of their followers by retweeting their tweets,
My recommendation for Twitter is quite simple. Twitter Inc. needs to restructure their company and marketing scheme. They need to market the site for corporations to think it is worth the investment to advertise. Twitter need to find sponsors to give financial support to a new site design, better advertisement, and also creating partnerships. Twitter Inc. needs to reposition itself to look more like a corporate media site and not a site for teens to release trash gossip. In the segmentation of the market, Twitter should segment the market for mature users and teens. In the segmentation they may have one side that focus on corporate sponsors and the other side should focus on alternative financial support.
The following question asked people roughly how often they use Twitter. 5 customers stated that they use Twitter about once a month. 7 log onto Twitter about once a week. 15 use Twitter several times a week, 10 use it once a day, and 9 people use it several times a day. The other 30 do not use Twitter. This question indicates that Twitter, while less popular than Facebook, still plays a significant role in the social lives of people. Used almost exclusively on mobile format (tablets, smartphones etc.), it is important for a SoLoMo marketing campaign to heavily incorporate it, however the fact that is is less popular among United Sports’ customers implies that it is not as important as Facebook.
latest information, ideas, careers, and interest. There are many different social media platforms that we all use like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram. They have their advantages and disadvantages based on how the way many people will use it for and how they help. Almost everyone doesn’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing to have social media, but it is a useful thing to use some time during our day. But we use it for the events that occurs to us and when we want to speak up.
