Another factor that would give a service user a positive experience in a social care service would be anti-discriminatory practice. Anti-discriminatory practice is complementary to the practice of equal opportunities. Therefore the service user would be having a positive experience as they will not be treated differently due to age, race, or gender etc. But will be given more advice or help if needed, depending on their ability.

In this assignment I am going to design a booklet explaining of how national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory practice. I am going to explain an assessment of the influences of a recent national policy initiative promoting anti-discriminatory practice in health and social care settings. Then I am going to evaluate the success of a recent initiative in promoting anti-discriminatory practice.

Abuse is when you treat someone with cruelty or violently regularly or repeatedly. In the story Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese abuse is one of the main themes. In the novel, Saul is hurt physically and mentally due to racial abuse and this leads him to abuse alcohol.

They will use discrimination to cause a person low self-esteem and self-identity to their advantage. A negative image of health and social care practice will only be portrayed if they don’t respect everyone’s right, but if they do follow through with laws which protect individuals they will be highly be respected, because they have everyone’s rights in mind while doing it. The person dealing with the discrimination will go through the feeling of anxiety, depression, seclusion, suicidal though or worse counselling session can also help the individual to feel better and must be

In the second section of the assessment I will describe four discriminatory practices in health and social care. The four discriminatory practices I will be describing are prejudice, labelling, stereotyping and abuse. Prejudice: This is an preconceived ideas about an individual, arising from a person’s negative ideas about the individual. Stretch Whitehouse, 2010, pg 68. Prejudice can be positive or negative.

Abuse may be physical, psychological, sexual, financial, negligent, reckless behaviour which endangers self or others as well as self-harm. Abuse may be intentional or unintentional. It may be about doing something (an act of commission) or doing something (an act of omission). When a person abuses another person they violate their human and civil rights. Abuse may occur regularly and systematically or just once.

Engel starts out her book, with a definition of abuse, defining it as verbal, physical or emotional attacks directed at an individual in order to control him/her, humiliate him/her, or to cause fear. She explains

As a health care provider it is so important to be aware of ones own biases, stereotypes, and prejudices. The role in this career is to provide for others, and this will include others that differ from yourself. In order to provide optimal health care to these people you can’t let these differences get in the way.

The reported experience among the people that represent the groups that are often subject to discrimination opine that the health care system meant for the public often ends up discriminating against the minority group members by failing to cater for their special needs. The result of this level of discrimination is that the public health sector may fail to look into the needs of the special groups (Williams, 2011). In as much as the health and social care system tries to represent all the people and adhere to the general principles of justice, the acts of discrimination still persist in the society leading to the creation of wrong opinions towards the equality in the medical care sector. The most common targets of discrimination in the medical setting included the minority racial groups and the disabled (Cribb, 2005). The paper will look at the discrimination practices that pervade the nursery setting in the hospitals.

Children who are bullied may have short term effects on them. They often do not like to go to school, have problems making friends, and in extreme cases develop depression can lead to suicide. Bullying can have lasting effects on a victim. Fortunately, most who are bullied receive support from others tend not to have any lasting effect.

Discriminatory practices – residential care homes may have systems that are discriminatory and abusive to the right of residents they may be help to bed or pressures.
