Chapter 20.3, Problem 9CC
Summary Introduction
To describe: The effect of hyperkalemia on the resting membrane potential and excitability of neurons and myocardium.
Introduction: Hyperkalemia is the pathological state in which the K+ level of the body increases more than its normal value. Potassium plays a vital role in the proper functioning of a nerve cell, muscle cells, and cardiac cells. The normal blood potassium level is 3.6-5.2 millimoles per liter, but the potassium level higher than 6.0 millimoles per liter is hazardous for health.
