Introduction:
Cells are regarded as the simplest unit (structural and functional) of life. Cellular membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm are the three major components of a cell. Cellular membrane, which surrounds the entire cell, is composed of phospholipids and proteins. The nucleus is bound by a nuclear membrane, and it possesses the genetic material of the cell. Cytoplasm consists of organelles, cytoskeleton (filaments and tubules), and inclusion bodies. Other organelles present in a cell include endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi complex, mitochondria, centrioles, peroxisomes, and lysosomes. Protoplasm denotes all living material that are present in the cell enclosed by the cellular membrane (inside and outside the nucleus).

- Cell membrane modifications found on epithelial cells in the small intestine and kidney tubules that prevent movement of material from the intestinal tract into the peritoneal cavity are  called ______arrow_forward_____________ is a polymeric network in the prokaryotic cell wall in which short peptide chains are linked to carbohydrate chains.arrow_forwardThe result of completed apoptosis of a cell is apoptotic bodies, which are numerous vesicles of the dead cell contents, including reactive enzymes, chromatin and mitochrondria. How are these apoptotic bodies then full digested and removed from the body?arrow_forward
- Ubiquitin Marks Cytosolic Proteins for __________ in Proteasomes.arrow_forwardFor plasma membrane, what macromolecules (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, or necleic acids contribute to the organelle functionarrow_forwardShock (failure of the circulatory system) is an abnormal condition in which blood flow is inadequate. The most common causes of shock are massive blood loss and obstruction of blood flow. As a result of shock, there is a failure to provide cells with oxygen and nutrients. In this circumstance, cells swell and lysosomal membranes rupture, among other effects. Describe how energy is generated during shock and why cell structure becomes destabilized.arrow_forward
- The introduction of amino acids into a cancer cell culture media will cause an upregulation of mTORC1 signaling and_______________? Group of answer choices Ribosome degradation Autophagy Protein synthesis Lipolysis and Fatty acid oxidationarrow_forwardIndicate whether the following statements are correct or not with respect to protein synthesis using the dropdown on the right.arrow_forwardParamecium caudatum is a unicellular organism that can phagocytose and digest a bacterium using hydrolytic enzymes. Proteases are one example of hydrolytic enzymes that can break down proteins into polypeptides and amino acids. Name all of the organelles involved, in the order that the protease will go through. from its synthesis to its final destination. Note that this protease needs to be modified through the addition of a carbohydrate in order to be functional.arrow_forward
- In _____________ heterogeneity, mutations in one of two or moredifferent genes can cause the same disease.arrow_forwardAlcoholism results in the inability of liver cells to properly digest proteins. Which of the following organelles is most likely to be negatively affected by alcoholism?arrow_forwardThe plasma membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm are the three main parts of the cell. Describe these parts and explain how they work together to bring about 'Homeostasis" within each cell.arrow_forward
