BIO EST Left ventricle pumping The lower left chamber of the heart (the left ventricle) pumps blood into the aorta. According to biophysical studies, a left ventricular contraction lasts about 0.20s and pumps 88g of blood. This blood starts at rest and after 0.20s is moving through the aorta at about 2 m/s. (a) Estimate the force exerted on the blood by the left ventricle. (b) What is the percent uncertainty in your answer? (c) What assumptions did you make? Did the assumptions increase or decrease the calculated value of the force compared to the actual value?

- A rectangular block has a length that is five times its width and a height that is three times its width. The blocks surfaces are all identical except for size. When the block is placed on a horizontal tabletop so that the area in contact with the table is length width, it is found that a horizontal force of 10.0 N applied to the block is just sufficient to overcome the static friction force and cause the block to move. The block is then knocked over so that the area in contact with the table is length height. Now, what minimum horizontal force will cause the block to move? Explain.arrow_forwardReview. A force platform is a tool used to analyze the performance of athletes by measuring the vertical force the athlete exerts on the ground as a function of time. Starting from rest, a 65.0-kg athlete jumps down onto the platform from a height of 0.600 m. While she is in contact with the platform during the time interval 0t 0.800 s, the force she exerts on it is described by the function F = 9 200t 11 500 t2 where F is in newtons and t is in seconds. (a) What impulse did the athlete receive from the platform? (b) With what speed did she reach the platform? (c) With what speed did she leave it? (d) To what height did she jump upon leaving the platform?arrow_forward12 A bowling alley uses a ball-feeding mechanism to deliver the bowling balls back to the players. The ball-feeding mechanism must exert a force on the bowling balls to push them up a 1.2 m long ramp at a constant speed. The ramp leads the balls to a chute 0.6 m above the base of the ramp. How much force must be exerted on a 6.0 kg bowling ball? - The 1.5 kg physics book in figure is connected by a string to a 350 g coffee cup. The book is given a push up the slope and released with a speed of 3.1 m/s. The coefficients of friction are us = 0.50 and μk = 0.20. (Figure 1) Figure 20⁰ 1 of 1 Part A How far does the book slide? Since the lid of the jar could be closed well and secured, I went ahead and closed it well making sure the lid will not fall off upon the impact and started my experiment. I Practice dropping the container from different heights, I did 6ft and 10ft. After dropping each, I check to see whether the egg has survived and after each drop and replace all materials before conducting a second drop. Question "What physics concept(s) did I employed to protect my egg?" - A vehicle applies it breaks for 102 ft before departing the roadway. The roadway surface friction factor is 0.50. The vehicle continues to break on an unpaved surface with a fiction factor of 0.30, for another 30 ft. The vehicle then strikes a stationary object with an impact of 20 mph. What was the initial speed of the vehicle? The roadway and unpaved surface are level.arrow_forwarda. Hooke's Law states that the force F required to stretch a spring x units beyond the natural length is directly proportional to x. Express F as a function of x that involves a constant of proportionality k. A weight of 10 pounds stretches a certain spring from its natural length of 100 inches to a length of 120 inches.
