Summary Introduction

To explain: Advantage of a complex, compact body form.

Introduction: All animals have different body plans that change based on the response to environmental pressures. They limit the shape and size. A body plan encompasses segmentation, symmetry, and limb disposition. The bodies of almost all animals are made up of differentiated tissues.

Explanation of Solution

The body of animals is built from connective, nervous, epithelial, and muscle tissues. A group of same cells is referred to as tissues that have a common function. Organs that accomplish a particular function often contain a layered tissue arrangement. In an organ system, a group of organs is integrated. The major function that is needed for life is carried out by an organ system. More specialization is allowed by the complexity. The specialized organs that are protected inside the body can control interstitial fluid composition and meet the requirement of animals. A complex body is particularly beneficial in extremely variable terrestrial environments.

Form fits function,” when applied to biology, is a guide to the anatomy of life at all its structural levels. Explain in your own words what is meant by ―form fits function.
A hypothetical organ has the following functional requirements : (1) the ability to resist surface abrasion and mechanical stresses;(2) the ability to contract involuntarily when stimulated by cells of the nervous system; and (3) the ability to resist tension in many different planes of force. The organ needs one tissue to carry out each of these requirements, and it also needs one tissue to " glue" all other tissues together, and one tissue to stimulate the contracting cells. What are the five tissues that will make up this hypothetical organ ? Justify your choices .
