Social Justice is the opportunity for anyone to have the freedom to pursue wealth, education, and our constitutional rights no matter our race, religion, or sex. Equity is the thought that everyone is created equally and should not be discriminated based on their beliefs. The opportunities here in America are like no other country due to the rights we are provided such as healthcare and medical benefits. Frank McCourt had an amazing opportunity by coming back to America after he moved to Ireland 15 years ago. According to the article “The Education of Frank McCourt” written by Barbara Sande Dimmit exemplifies how McCourt took advantage of Social Justice and equity by attending New York University and going into the military to receive food, …show more content…

McCourt chose the decrepit bed he and his brothers had shared. He wrote of their being scratched by the stiff stuffing protruding from the mattress and of ending up jumbled together in the sagging center with fleas leaping all over their bodies. The professor gave McCourt an A.” (Dimmit) This quote shows how his childhood experiences changed him and how he would write forever. McCourt has had experiences like nobody else and he is able to tell us his story through his writing. Another quote from McCourt says “‘Everyone has a story to tell,’ he said. ‘Write about what you know with conviction, from the heart. Dig deep.’ he urged. ‘Find your own voice and dance your own dance!’” McCourt is exemplifying to us that instead of writing about random bits of our past, we should be writing about what really matters to us. There have been many people in my life who have come into my life and have influenced me, but the person who has influenced me the most is my father. My dad has encouraged me the most to get the best possible education I can get and get involved in multiple extracurricular activities. One of the main reasons why he is my primary influence is because he is constantly mentoring on how I can have the best life as an adult not only family wise, but financially wise as well. My father will impact me greatly
