Interpretation:
The general trend of ionization energies of elements which are followed by elements of the same chemical family is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
Every element wants to attain an electronic configuration same as noble gas configuration, to do so elements either gain electrons or lose electrons. When an atom of element gains electrons, it forms an anion. When an atom of element loses electrons, it forms a cation. The energy required to remove an electron from an ion or isolated atom is known as its ionization energy.
